In recognition of the cultural importance of children and families, the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board hosts an annual event known as El Dia de los Niños, or Day of the Children. Since 2001, el Dia de los Niños is a very special holiday celebrated throughout Latin America where families, schools and communities come together to value and uplift the children in the community.  This Board event includes food vendors, a variety of fun-filled and educational activities (including children’s’ rides and booths from community resource businesses and vendors), entertainers (including clowns and mascots) and main stage entertainment that is appropriate for all ages

This event was held on Saturday, April 25 and featured food vendors, performances by Ballet Folklorico, Radio Disney and Ronald McDonald, children’s rides, moon jumps, clowns and a talent show featuring three young local singers. Newly introduced to the event is a Talent Show, which included Sinai Alfaro (a fourth-grader at Brady School), Destinée Oliva (a sophomore at Waubonsie Valley High School) and Anthony Hernandez (a fourth-grader at Annunciation School).

Despite the rainstorms that poured down, the crowd was estimated near 4,000 people.

The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board would like to thank all of the sponsors for El Dia de Los Niños 2009.
